There are many types of finish you can choose from. Take a look below to see some of our most used finishes.

Water - based Finish

Water based wood finishes are a safe, environmentally friendly option for most finishing projects, and offer a number of advantages.

Water-based polyurethane has lower VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds), it doesn't last as long.  Water-based finishes dry much faster, can apply several coats in a day and get back to the house that night. They don’t have strong chemical odor, noxious fumes, almost no smell.  Water-based polyurethane will not stink up the house like an oil based poly.  It is safe for people and pets to occupy a house while undergoing coatings of water based poly.

Oil based poly has an amber hue, whereas water based poly is clear.  An oil based polyurethane will continue to amber and darken over time, while water based poly will remain clear for the lifetime of the hardwood floor.  This color difference is less noticeable over a stained hardwood floor, but an oil based poly will still exhibit an amber hue that will continue to darken over time.

Oil Finish

Essentially a plastic in the form of a liquid until it dries, polyurethane comes in varieties of finishes, from satin to glossy. Oil-based polys are the mainstay of floor finishing and widely used by professional finishers. Although they’re tough, long-lasting, and less-expensive than water-based polys, oil-based polys have a higher VOC content and stronger odor during application. A coat takes 10 to 24 hours to dry, so you’ll want to vacate your house until the floor is completely dry — and bring your pets with you.
